What is hypnosis?


What is Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy is a technique involving the use of communication (of any kind) to alter states of mind, change beliefs, and ultimately change the way subjective reality is experienced. - This, in turn, changes how you behave within certain contexts and creates new results!

Whereas, Hypnosis is a broader term, used to include all forms of practice, be it on stage as entertainment, impromptu playfulness/exploration, or in the therapeutic setting for healing or personal transformation. Hypnotherapy is a term almost always denoting the use of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes. I use both terms on this site as jurisdictions in various states and countries differ in which term is allowable.


Many people seem to have a bunch of false or inaccurate assumptions about hypnotherapy and one of the biggest assumptions is that hypnosis is all about mind control or that they will have no volition or control over their own minds once they are hypnotized.



Myths debunked

Forget what you have seen at the movies, on TV, in Las Vegas on stage, or even at the county fairgrounds. The focus of those settings is entertainment, not healing or change-work. By necessity, the framing (set up) in those contexts creates an illusion that the hypnotist is in complete control of every nuance of the subject's mind, and they have no agency of their own. That makes for an impressive show and potentially, a lot of laughs but it isn't what I do.

Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy is about healing and refocusing your mind in more useful directions. It is not mind control or brainwashing and you do not fall under a spell. I am your trusted ally, your trance coach, and your guide. I am not your puppeteer. I respect your sovereignty and with your permission, I will teach you how to reorganize your approach to life in positive ways.

You don’t have to be a gullible person or a person with a loud and wild personality to do hypnotherapy and in fact, many professional business owners, and world-renowned athletes use hypnotherapy as a tool - a tool to get better results. The best results are always achieved with people who are intelligent, willing, and committed to experiencing the changes they seek. One of the fundamental intentions of hypnotherapy is to retrain the mind so that it serves us, instead of working against us.
